PAUL CARELLO: WINNING ENTRY
***************************************
“After living my childhood with my parents who are one of the most happily married couples I have ever seen, it was natural to me to want to get married. They share an amazing bond, a natural companionship that is of two separate people combined into one amazing couple. All I ever wanted was a relationship like this, I had witnessed my whole childhood. It seemed natural and easy.

“I got married and I soon realized it was not as easy as it seemed to be when I was growing up. I ended up getting divorced after trying to make it work for 19 years. When I separated, I vowed I would never get married again.

“Once some time had passed, I met a man who would renew my faith in relationships. I never thought it would be possible for me to find as wonderful a man as my father, but now I feel like I met my father’s twin only 25 years younger!

“My boyfriend Mark is the most kind, caring, giving man that I have ever had the pleasure to be with. We compliment each other in every way and his strengths are my weakness and my strengths are meant to help him in his life. He allows me to be myself in every way and I never have to hide, I am free to be me, and he accepts and loves me for who I am.

“I never thought it would be possible to have the good fortune at this stage of my life to have a second chance at true love….but I have and I am now believe if you are true to yourself, you can find your soul mate.

“My love is not a dancer, but he wants to learn because he knows I love to dance and he wants to be able to dance with me.”

JACKMEN CHONG (Honourable Mention)

Dear Fran,

Your love is amazing and it fills me with joy.
It makes my heart swell like a mother for her baby boy.
Your love is amazing every time that we meet,
It makes my heart quicken with each wonderful beat.
Your love is amazing as everyone can tell,
I will always love you and be under your spell.

Love is in the Air in downtown Burlington, and with Valentine’s Day coming up, how much fun would it be to surprise and sweep your loved one off his or her feet!

At danceScape, we are all about having fun through music and learning to dance. And the dances that best represent Valentine’s Day romance and passion are the Waltz, Rumba, and Tango.

The Waltz originated in the grand ballrooms of Vienna and during the 19th century, this dance caused quite a lot of scandal when it was introduced to the Society Balls in England. This was the first time that couples young and old began to embrace each other while dancing in public. Wrote The Times of London newspaper, “We remarked with pain that the indecent foreign dance called the Waltz was introduced at the English court … it is quite sufficient to cast one’s eyes on the voluptuous intertwining of the limbs and … we feel it a duty to warn every parent against exposing his daughter to so fatal a contagion.”

And across the ocean in Cuba, couples were doing more than just embracing. They were sensually gyrating their hips to the hypnotic rhythms of the “Rumba”, Cuba’s dance of love. If you’re new to dancing, think of the Rumba as a slowed-down version of Salsa where couples rock forward-back-sideways while moving the hips in a sensual “figure-8” action to the love songs of Gloria Estefan and Ed Sheeran. And then kissing on a sandy white beach under the light of a thousand stars.

With romance comes the promise of passion, and there is nothing more passionate than the “Tango”, Argentina’s dance of love. There are actually two main styles of Tango — Argentinian and International. Remember Arnold Schwarzenegger in the movie “True Lies”? His wife and children discovered that he was not living a boring life as a computer salesman, but was really a risk-taking international spy, saving the world with his killer “Tango” skills.

In celebration of Valentine’s Day, danceScape has a fun photo or video submission contest where you could win a Private Lesson dance package worth over $300, and other great prizes.
