Dance Teacher Training – Ballroom, Salsa/Latin, danceTONE, danceFLOW qigong/taichi

danceScape is a leading provider of Ballroom/Latin Dance learning and entertainment services. The company has a “Teacher Training Program” to meet the overwhelming demand for the dance learning experience. Those with a background in other dance styles will find our teaching system to be the most efficient way to fast track their way to success.

danceScape was founded in 2001 by 3-time Canadian and 2-time North American Undefeated Ballroom Champions, Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang. The company was recently featured on CBC Television’s business shows, “Fortune Hunters” and “Dragons’ Den”. Robert and Beverley have made frequent guest appearances as dance experts on W Network, Slice, CH Television, and HGTV.  Robert was featured in a national television commercial for ParticipACTION, the national voice of physical activity and sports recreation in Canada.

Candidates will first go through training in technical competency for danceScape’s “For Absolute Beginners” Ballroom workshop series which currently covers the basic steps and techniques in the Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa and Swing.

Successful graduates receive first priority to be considered for internship and professional development opportunities. Additional business opportunities are available to graduates who wish to start their own business as a danceScape Associate Instructor, or to danceScape Affiliate Studios that wish to offer danceScape programs within their facility.

Academy students may also enroll in other upcoming Teacher Training programs: the “For Absolute Beginners” Club class, which covers the basics of Salsa, Merengue, Bachata, and Swing; and our Latin dance based “women’s only” “danceTONE” dance fitness program.

Classes and training are held at our facility in downtown Burlington, Ontario.

Training occurs over three phases:

In phase one, pre-training materials are distributed prior to the start of class for Academy students to familiarize themselves with course content. Depending on the dates of registration, they may also be expected to enrol in our “For Absolute Beginners” Ballroom workshop to experience it as students themselves.

In phase two, Instructor candidates take a series of private or semi-private Training classes, or possible weekend seminars to meet total hours requirements. Candidates will become thoroughly familiar with course content and danceScape teaching methods. A final examination occurs upon completion of this segment.

In phase three, danceScape provides hands-on internship Training whereby Instructor candidates participate as teaching assistants in a “For Absolute Beginners” workshop. This provides valuable mentorship and helps develop confidence as teachers.

Upon completion of the above requirements, candidates will receive official danceScape Certification. Candidates may apply and teach for danceScape as an intern or assistant instructor, depending on the company's requirements at the time.

Anyone with a passion for dance and dance instruction is welcome to apply. Basic knowledge of Ballroom Dancing is helpful and may accelerate the training process, but it is not necessary. We are interested in general dance/movement experience (Jazz, Martial Arts, Yoga, etc.) as well as teaching experience (Aerobics and Fitness, Elementary/High School). Gentleman applicants in particular are encouraged.

Applicants must be at least 19 years old; younger applicants may apply but will require additional interview(s) for consideration.

Once you begin to teach Ballroom Dancing, you are newly categorized as a “Professional” (i.e., you now make money teaching dance).

As a Professional, you are permitted to compete in Professional or Pro-Am Competitions (a couple consisting of a Professional Teacher and an Amateur Student) is an option.

You are not permitted, however, to compete in Amateur (non-professional) competitions with Amateur dancers. There may be exceptions depending on the dance organization that you may belong.

danceScape practises a unique system for training students which we employ at all levels of instruction. Learning this system is a key part of our program.

Experienced instructors should understand that by becoming a certified danceScape instructor, they are tapping into a large network of business support services including qualified leads and extensive promotion. They are also eligible to be considered for other danceScape Syllabus and Business Training opportunities.

Additional program requirements for experienced dancers (i.e., internship period, examinations) will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Our training process is valuable to the experienced dancer. Revisiting the basics helps to understand the needs of a beginner Dancer. Studying the roles of both genders provides insight into partnership difficulties. Learning teaching skills, such as managing common problems among beginner students, helps accelerate the transition from dancer to teacher.

The examinations consist of dance and teaching technique covered in the program. It is a test of knowledge and communication skills. Students who do not meet our minimum pass requirements may re-take the program.

Associate Instructors must be registered in danceScape's Associate Membership Continuing Education Program. Attendance in Professional Development Training Seminars and/or online sessions are offered throughout the year are required in order to maintain your status as an danceScape Associate Instructor.

You may take additional upcoming Teacher Training programs to qualify you to teach other danceScape workshops (e.g., “For Absolute Beginners” Club, danceTONE, Level 1 Ballroom/Latin, Level 1 Club Dancing), which will also increase your earning potential. Private lessons with senior instructors are also be available for individual professional development.

Successful graduates receive first priority for teaching positions, qualified leads, and other opportunities, but are not guaranteed work per se. Graduates are eligible to apply and teach for danceScape as an intern or assistant instructor, depending on the company's requirements at the time. danceScape provides Marketing & Sales Business Support Services to help you become a Professional in the industry as in independent Associate Instructor.
