danceScape Supporting Community Wellness at Florence Meares Public School in Burlington

danceScape has always believed that movement, music, and community connection are essential ingredients for healthy living.

While many people know danceScape as a social dance studio in downtown Burlington, part of our mission is also to support community wellness initiatives that encourage people of all ages to experience the benefits of movement.

On Thursday, April 16 at 6:00 p.m., danceScape will be participating in a Community Wellness Evening at Florence Meares Public School in Burlington, bringing together students, parents, and community partners for an evening focused on health, connection, and mindful movement.

The event reflects the school’s commitment to supporting the Halton District School Board’s focus on student well-being and healthy communities.

Introducing Families to the Joy of Movement

During the evening, danceScape founders Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang will lead a family-friendly movement session designed to be welcoming and accessible for everyone.

The experience will introduce participants to:

• Simple rhythmic movement
• Dance-inspired fitness exercises
• Gentle breathing and relaxation techniques
• Interactive activities for parents and children

No dance experience is required.

The goal is not to teach complex dance steps, but to help families experience something simple yet powerful — moving together through music and rhythm.

Activities like these can help encourage:

• physical activity
• stress relief
• improved mood and confidence
• positive social connection

For many families, these moments of shared movement become memorable experiences that support both well-being and family bonding.

Community Organizations Working Together

The Florence Meares Community Wellness Evening will also feature several organizations dedicated to supporting children and families across Halton Region.

Community partners participating in the event include:

ROCK – Reach Out Centre for Kids
Woodview Mental Health and Autism Services

Ryan McLaughlin, CPE Teacher at Florence Meares Public School, shared his appreciation for the collaboration:

“Your focus on connection, confidence, and stress-relieving movement aligns beautifully with the goals of the evening, and we truly appreciate your willingness to support the event.”

Events like this create opportunities for families to discover resources in their community while also participating in activities that promote healthy living.

danceScape’s Role in the Community

Since opening in Burlington, danceScape has welcomed thousands of students into its studio to explore the benefits of music and movement.

Programs at danceScape include:

• Ballroom Dance
• Salsa and Latin Dance
• Wedding Dance preparation
• danceTONE dance-based cardio fitness
• danceFLOW qigong / tai chi inspired mindful movement

Many people initially come to danceScape to learn how to dance, but they often discover something more meaningful — confidence, friendships, and a welcoming community built around shared experiences.

Participating in community events like the Florence Meares Wellness Evening allows danceScape to share these benefits with families who may be experiencing dance and mindful movement for the first time.

Supporting Burlington Families Through Movement

For many Burlington families, opportunities to experience movement together can play an important role in supporting both physical and mental well-being.

Community initiatives like the Florence Meares Wellness Evening highlight how music, rhythm, and shared activities can help parents and children build confidence, reduce stress, and strengthen connections.

At danceScape, we are proud to be part of a growing network of schools, community organizations, and cultural partners working together to support healthy, connected communities across Burlington and the Halton region.
