danceFLOW qigong/taichi

danceFLOW is a gentle movement program blending qigong, tai chi, and simple social dance to support mobility, balance, flexibility, and stress relief. Accessible to beginners and older adults In-Studio or Online, it treats movement not only as exercise, but as a way to stay steady through change.

The program follows a three-season cycle inspired by Asian cultural understandings of time.

January (Beginning) draws from Chinese New Year traditions. Participants receive a red packet with a red thread and coin, symbolizing balance, continuity, and a steady start. Movement emphasizes grounding and gentle awakening.

Spring (Sakura / Passing) is inspired by cherry blossoms and the Japanese idea of mono no aware—appreciating beauty because it passes. Movement becomes fluid and circular, supporting adaptability and presence. Spencer Smith Park serves as a natural gathering point during blossom season.

Fall (Return) draws from the Mid-Autumn Moon Festival and harvest traditions. Three coins tied with red thread represent balance between heaven, earth, and humanity. Movement slows, helping participants integrate what has grown over the year.

The red thread connects all seasons—given, flowing, and gathered—reflecting how continuity is maintained through change. danceFLOW is not therapy or religion, but a culturally grounded, body-centered practice for moving through life with steadiness and care.

About QiGong
QiGong is an ancient Chinese art that combines guided meditation with breathing techniques, gentle movement and visualization to promote healing, balance, and circulate your body’s vital energy. In Traditional Chinese Medicine and Martial Arts, “QiGong” is a practice of breathing, physical movement, and mind to cultivate and balance Qi (Chi) which is the “intrinsic life energy”. Traditional QiGong dates back to 4000 years and incorporates rhythmic breathing with slow repetition of fluid movement, a calm mindful state, and visualization of guiding qi through the body along meridians paths.

For those who want a higher cardio toning exercise, danceScape also offers danceTONE fitness.
