Outdoor Ballroom & Latin Dance Event to “Celebrate the Brant Inn” at the Waterfront

Burlington, Ontario - July, 7th

The Waterfront at Downtown Burlington will transform the Compass at Discovery Landing into a two thousand square foot dance floor on Saturday, July 17th from 7 to 11 p.m. “Celebrate the Brant Inn”, now in its fifth year, has grown each year, with visitors enjoying Ballroom and Latin Dance demonstrations and lessons at Discovery Landing. The evening celebrates the historical Sky Club and Brant Inn that was originally located where Discovery Landing sits today.

CH Television’s Entertainment Reporter, Alex Reynolds, will kick off the event at 7 p.m. with his memories of the Brant Inn. For four years, Mr. Reynolds hosted the weekly remote broadcasts from the Brant Inn that were broadcast coast to coast on the CBC radio network. The famous nightspot was a stopover for all the major entertainment figures touring North America such as Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, Count Basie, Guy Lombardo, Tommy Dorsey, Andy Williams, Nat King Cole, Xavier Cugat Duke Ellington, and even Liberace!

Three-time Canadian and two-time North American undefeated Amateur Standard Ballroom Champions, Robert Tang and Beverley Cayton-Tang and their team of instructors and students from danceScape will demonstrate and offer lessons in the Social Foxtrot and Jive/Swing. The outdoor dance floor will be opened up to participants to dance to the Big Band music from the era of the Brant Inn and enjoy the night air beside Lake Ontario. States Beverley, who will also act as co-host of the event with Alex, “The Brant Inn was so much a part of Burlington’s cultural heritage; we invite everyone to share their personal memories and dance by moonlight.”

Audience members can participate in free lessons and enjoy an evening of general dancing on the outdoor dance floor. Fun spot and door prizes will be awarded throughout the evening, including danceScape’s “For Absolute Beginners Ballroom Dancing” 2-DVD set and The Burlington Historical Society’s “Brant Inn Memories” book and DVD.
